由Tom Kelly和Billy Steinberg 所作的True Colors这首民谣风格的英文歌曲，最早由Cindy Lauper在其1986年专辑True Colors中演唱，该曲获得格莱美奖提名，并曾在 1986 年荣登 Billboard 单曲排行榜第一名。
万芳在 1994 年出版的第一张英文专辑《Tea for Two》里也演唱了這首歌，在其演唱版本中钢琴伴奏为主，部分小节加入小提琴，舒缓、轻柔的抒情方式演绎出了不同于原唱的感觉。
歌坛老将Phil Collins也曾于1998年在自己的专辑中演唱该曲，获得全美抒情榜8周亚军的优异成绩。
2001年集结港台、新马泰、印尼、菲律宾、蒙古等亚洲15位艺人（包括林忆莲、蔡健雅、孙燕姿、黄莺莺、萧亚轩、黄韵仁和Dick Lee等人）联手推出专輯 “爱是唯一，为世界的孩子而唱”（ Love is the answer）中，蔡健雅演唱了True Colors这首她最爱的英文歌曲。
在2005年陈慧琳的最新专辑《华丽典雅》中，True Colors成为其上唯一一首英文歌曲。
另外，Sarina Paris 、American Juniors、藤田惠美等国外艺人也都曾翻唱该曲，可见该曲的受欢迎程度。
今天无意中找到了五个版本的True Colors，Cindy Lauper的声音转换让人不得不佩服；万芳的收录于《薰衣草》的原声专辑中，编曲很喜欢，但是总是听着不大舒服，不知道是不是和她的英文发音有关；陈慧琳的是现场版，觉得高潮部分纯人声的还不错，加上配乐就有点不伦不类了；Phil Collins的声音浑厚，演绎出了不同于女声的感觉，喜欢配乐中的风笛。不过我最喜欢的却是不知道歌手名字的一支雪糕广告歌，很轻快的女声，也能完美表达原词的意境。
